TGS 2015 Preview: Green Bay Packers

Between now and the end of August, TGS will offer up a quick snapshot of every NFL team heading into the 2015 regular season. Today, the Green Bay Packers.

2014 in a nutshell: They win 12 games, strutting into the playoffs with MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Then, after beating the Cowboys in a divisional-round heartbreaker, they lose to the Seahawks in an even bigger conference championship heartbreaker.

Why 2015 could be different: After a shocking conclusion to the 2014 campaign, head coach Mike McCarthy has turned over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tom Clements.

Major additions: Top 2015 draft pick Damarious Randall, I suppose? The Packers aren’t big on making additions.

Major losses: But they also don’t let many guys go. Still, veteran defenders Tramon Williams and A.J. Hawk are gone.

Breakout watch: Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has the ability and now the experience to explode after an up-and-down rookie season. But also keep an eye on second-year tight end Richard Rodgers as Andrew Quarless deals with potential legal issues.

Position to watch: Linebacker. Will Clay Matthews move inside as frequently as he did last year? Will Julius Peppers hold up at the age of 35? And can youngsters Sam Barrington and Carl Bradford emerge?

Prediction: It’s hard to find a hole, and they’ve got the best quarterback in the game. They’ll be back in the NFC championship game, and I’d bet on them getting back to the Super Bowl.
