After his short outing against the Washington Nationals last Thursday, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cliff Lee is pretty much done for the rest of the season. Even though, we kind of already expected this.
According to Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., Lee has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 2 flexor strain and will go home to Arkansas to rest, as he told MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki.
Amaro also told Zolecki that “We hope to get him into a throwing program in October or November.” The good news about Lee’s injury is that it does not require surgery which is great for the 35-year-old pitcher. Lee returned Philadelphia as he went to Rothman Institute to get a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in his elbow.
For the Phillies, you can only hope that Lee gets better in time for Spring Training 2015 but it does make it harder to trade him in the offseason. Lee still has $37.5 million left on his contract and there is no team right now that will take on that type of money with his age.
