MAKO Medical has officially been named the 2020 Camping World Maui Invitational testing partner. KemperLesnik, the tournament organizers, made the landmark announcement this week. This year’s tournament will take place in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville between November 30 and December 2 due to restrictions caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The tournament organizers, along with stakeholders, decided to change the location of the event based on the new NCAA-adjusted schedule. Event stakeholders include NCAA, County of Maui, Hawaii State Health Officials, Chaminade University Officials, and the participating schools. The purpose of the move is to avoid any potential health and safety issues for both fans and the sporting event’s participants.
Partnership With MAKO Medical
To keep everyone involved safe, the Buncombe County Health and Human Services and local hotels, in partnership with MAKO Medical, will create a “Maui Bubble.” The support bubble will be in the Asheville area and help reduce the risk and spread of the COVID-19 virus. The central idea is that this approach will protect all of the participating teams, staff in the hospitality venues, and nearby residents during the event.

Things will look different for this particular tournament. Due to the ongoing restrictions in response to COVID-19, no fans will be allowed in the arena to watch the tournament. Those who have All-Tournament or Booster Travel Package tickets have already been fully refunded for their original purchases. Looking to the future, the Maui Invitational and their sponsor, Maui Jim, hope to return to the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui in 2021.
