Panthers Ekblad suffers apparent injury

It’s begun already.

I (half) jokingly wished Aaron Ekblad condolences when he was drafted first overall by the Florida Panthers this past June, the joke being that careers go to South Beach to die. I didn’t think my jokes had the power to come true (sort of).

Playing in an U20 summer development camp game between Team Canada and Czech Republic World Junior hopefuls, Ekblad was sandwiched by a pair of Czech defenders while trying to enter the zone:

Ekblad left the ice slowy, looking a bit woozy, and immediately left for the dressing room. He’s been given the completely vague “upper-body injury” tag, though this certain smells of a concussion. Let’s hope that the talented young defenseman is okay, but a lesson for all you high Panthers picks: get out while you can.
