Bruins Sign David Krejci to a Six-Year Extension

After various talks and rumours in the hockey world, many thought that a David Krejci trade away from the Boston Bruins was immanent. Well hockey world, you were wrong. Very wrong.

Today the Bruins announced that they had signed the Center to a brand new, shiny extension taking him through to the 2020-21 season. Krejci’s new contract is worth $7,250,000 in cap room a year and is worth a total of $43.5 million over the six years, making him the highest paid player in the Bruins locker room.

You could say he earned it. Krejci led the Bruins in scoring during their 2013-14 campaign with 69 points. Amongst those points were 19 goals and 50 assists (first on the team). On a team where most of the top 6 forwards get a lot of points, that’s pretty impressive stuff. To add to that, he also had the leagues best plus-minus (+39). Deserved? I think so.

In his career, the Czech has skated in 504 NHL games, all in Boston. Totalling 110 goals and 268 assists for 378 points with a combined plus-97 rating. In the playoffs, Krejci has played in 93 games grabbing 29 goals and 48 helpers with a plus-22 rating. Clearly, consistency in the regular season and post season counts for a lot. Oh and add a Stanley Cup to his resumee as well, in 2011 when the Bruins no.46 played in all 25 games while registering a team leading 12 goals and 23 points. Pretty impressive.

Let’s hope he continues in a similar fashion throughout the rest of his career in Boston.
