Isaiah Crowell to donate first 2016 game check to police fund

The Cleveland Browns open the season Sept. 11 at Philadelphia, and Browns running back Isaiah Crowell will donate the check he earns in that game to the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation, according to TMZ Sports.

Crowell had posted on social media a picture of a masked man slashing a police officer’s throat. He deleted it, but not before the backlash began. Crowell apologized for the post, which came before five Dallas police officers were killed in a protest last week, but the Browns weren’t satisfied with just an apology.

The Cleveland police union threatened not to work Browns home games this season if Crowell didn’t back up his words with another gesture.

So Crowell will pay a little more than $35,000 to an organization that supports families of police officers killed in the line of duty.

On the 15th anniversary of 9/11, Crowell will be working to help the families of officers killed on July 7, the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since Sept. 11, 2001.
