Karlos Dansby: Browns players ‘shut down’ during 2015 season

Cleveland finally has a championship to celebrate this week, but not without a reminder of just how bad the city’s football team has been.

Bengals linebacker Karlos Dansby, who played for the Browns during the two-year Mike Pettine era, told Sirius XM NFL Radio via NFL.com that “guys had just shut down” during the Browns’ 3-13 season in 2015.

Dansby cited the “mess” with the coaching staff and front office and said that he and fellow veteran Donte Whitner found it hard to get teammates motivated. The Browns, who went 10-22 in two seasons under Pettine, released Dansby and Whitner as part of their rebuilding process.

New head coach Hue Jackson is the centerpiece of the Browns’ rebuilding process. It’s a major construction project, but perhaps the Cavaliers have provided some motivational building material.
