Former New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones had a feeling he was going to be traded this offseason.
“There were a lot of rumors out,” Jones told Sirius XM NFL radio on Wednesday. “I try to stay away from the media, but I heard rumors. Like I said, it wasn’t as shocking when I found out I was traded, but there were definitely rumors.”
Jones, 26, was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a second-round pick and offensive guard Jonathan Cooper in March. A first-round draft choice out of Syracuse in 2012, Jones led the Patriots defense in sacks with a career-high 12.5, and he was one of three Patriots players with at least four forced fumbles last season.
The Cardinals open the 2016 season at home against the Patriots (who else), and Jones says he’s already looking forward to the matchup.
“When I first found that out, that they were going to be on our schedule, I said that I was going to circle that game red, with a red marker,” Jones said. “It’s Week 1, so that’s even better. The NFL already contacted me and told me I’ll probably be mic’d up for that game, so that’ll be a fun game to listen to.”
