Cardinals president predicts online NFL game broadcasts

Imagine not needing a satellite dish to watch your favorite NFL team if you’re an out-of-town fan. Imagine it were as simple as clicking on YouTube.

Cardinals president Michael Bidwill says that day could come.

Bidwill told Pro Football Talk that at some point an outlet such as YouTube, Amazon or Netflix could outbid the traditional TV networks for the rights to broadcast NFL games.

“There’s no doubt it’s coming,” Bidwill said. “Our fans are switching to digital, they’re switching to handheld and mobile devices, and we want to respond to that.”

In an age when people can binge watch their favorite TV shows any time they want, it seems out-dated that a Packers fan in New England can only watch the Packers in his or her living room when they happen to be shown in the area on CBS, Fox, NBC or ESPN. If said living room isn’t equipped with the NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV, that fan has to find a place that has NFL Sunday Ticket to watch the majority of Packers games.

If Bidwill is right, there could come a day when NFL fans, no matter where they live, can watch all their team’s games live without leaving home and without paying for DirecTV.
