Report: Chiefs tried to trade up for Laquon Treadwell

Oh, what could have been.

As if there weren’t enough surprises in the first round of the draft, the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly tried to trade up for Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell, who went 23rd overall to the Minnesota Vikings.

But to have gotten Treadwell, the Chiefs would have had to give up a couple of Day 3 picks just to get close to where he was drafted, based on the draft trade chart. Treadwell was part of a trio of receivers taken with picks 21-23. There were four receivers in all taken in the first round of the draft.

Instead, the Chiefs traded back with San Francisco and acquired additional second, fourth and sixth-round picks. If the Chiefs fancy a receiver on Day 2 of the draft, there’s still some good ones to be had, but they won’t come close to the hype Treadwell carried as the best receiver in the SEC last season.
