N(e)XT Up – Sami Zayn

I want to dedicate this one to all of my ska-loving high school friends! Every time Sami Zayn’s music hits, it is almost impossible to not be in an immediate fun mood!

That music could hit the Raw speakers sooner rather than later! Rumors have been swirling that Sami Zayn may be getting that call to the main roster again in the very near future – like in enough time to set up a WrestleMania match soon. This time Sami, maybe we ease up on the arm waving and keep that shoulder in place? Just sayin…

If you look up Sami Zayn, you’ll only get information from the last few years. But if you look up El Generico, you’ll find an international star with a career that dates back to 2004.

The masked luchador…with the bright red beard flowing out of the mask…has worked in several small promotions throughout the world. His most famous “Indy” run would come in Ring of Honor where he would have memorable feuds with other Indy stars such as Nigel McGuinness, Christopher Daniels and Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens).

The mask came off in 2013 after signing with WWE the NXT Universe was introduced to Sami Zayn. In his time in NXT, Zayn has put on incredible matches with the likes of Neville, Tyler Breeze, Cory Graves and Bo Dallas to name a few.

Zayn’s matches with Cesaro are what put him on the NXT/WWE Universe’s map though. The two had a series of matches in 2013/2014 including a two out of three falls match that was considered a Match of the Year candidate in 2013. Once Zayn does find his way to the main roster, it will only be a matter of time before these two cross paths again.

The WWE Universe got a glimpse of what Zayn can do last May when he answered John Cena’s US Championship open challenge. The match itself was phenomenal…especially since Zayn basically had the use of only one arm throughout the match.

Zayn would be out nearly seven months recovering from the shoulder injury but has made an impact already going after Owens in the Royal Rumble and battling Samoa Joe for a chance to become the first two-time NXT Champion.

Fans have been clamoring to see somebody like Sami Zayn make his way to the main roster AND make an impact once there. The opportunity to do so could be at hand as we speak!

HOW TO BOOK THE CALL UP

NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!!

You know, I think bringing Zayn up soon would actually be a good thing.

In all honesty, the stars have aligned for a perfect debut for Zayn. Backstage reports had previously called for Kevin Owens to meet AJ Styles at WrestleMania this year. WELP! With the emergence of the new budding bromance known as Y2AJ, those plans have seemingly changed.

So that leaves Owens, the current Intercontinental Champion, without a dance partner in Dallas. Why not continue a heated rivalry that started back in NXT? We got a small taste of it at the Royal Rumble when Zayn was a surprise entrant and eliminated Owens. The story can simply pick up from there.

Not only is it a smooth story transition, but putting these two long-time friends together on the show of shows could very well STEAL the show of shows! The two are arguably at the top of the list of guys who can put on matches that appeal to today’s audience. The WrestleMania crowd would go nuts with these two in the ring.

Another reason why now is the best time to bring Sami up is the location of this Monday’s Raw. Some of the top NXT stars have had a hard time getting initial reactions from the crowd simply because that crowd might not be familiar with NXT. Raw emanates from Chicago this Monday where that would not be a problem. The Chicago crowd knows and appreciates the stars down in NXT. Zayn would receive a reaction similar to the one he received in his hometown of Montreal last May.
