RG3 will have to wait to find new team

On Monday, the RG3 era officially ended in Washington, as the Redskins released the former No. 2 overall pick.

Robert Griffin III was a healthy scratch almost the entire year last season, and now, he’s a free agent. It’s difficult to see RG3 signing with a team as a backup quarterback, especially considering his resume and last season’s role, however his new team, could all be dependent on what happens out West in Denver.

Should Brock Osweiler leave the Broncos for the Texans, then suddenly the Super Bowl champions would find themselves without their No. 1 and No. 2 QBs from last season. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick suddenly becomes an interesting prospect for the Broncos, and this is something we spoke about last November:

3- Denver

This to me, is the more outlandish and improbable move, but think about this for a second. Peyton Manning is nearing the end of his career, and Denver is setup to contend for the next couple of years. They don’t want to be in a situation where once Peyton leaves, they have to start from scratch, so enter Colin Kaepernick.

Again, you know what he’s done in the past, now add two 1,000 yard wide receivers, a solid offensive line, a stellar defense, and plug in Kaepernick, and Denver could be an immediate threat even after Peyton retires. Think of the Dallas Cowboys when Roger Staubach retired and Danny White took over.

If both these scenarios were to happen, then RG3 could wind up in San Francisco competing for the starting job against Blaine Gabbert in a Chip Kelly led-offense, something he excelled in back in 2012.

This makes the most sense for Griffin, however, it’s all dependent on what Osweiler does, or so it seems that way. Although it’s possible RG3 could take a backup role (perhaps with a team like Indianapolis), that scenario seems doubtful, especially with the very simple fact that he sat an entire season last year, not even suiting up as a backup.

Griffin will find a new home in 2016, but it’s just a question of when, and it appears that several domino’s have to fall before RG3 finds a landing spot.
