Former Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel agreed to become the new head coach of the Orlando Magic Thursday, as first reported by the Orlando Sentinel.
Vogel, who was let go by the Pacers two weeks ago, replaces Scott Skiles, who stepped down last week after his first season, claiming he wasn’t the right head coach for the Magic.
Vogel led the Pacers to a 250-181 record and five playoff appearances over five-and-a-half seasons. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in NBA wins, and trails only Bobby Leonard for total victories as a head coach.
Vogel will be the fourth Magic head coach in as many years.
The Magic are getting a defensive-minded coach in Vogel, whose Indiana teams finished top six in field-goal percentage defense and top 10 in defensive efficiency every year.
