Why Elway Wants Siemian

This offseason and every offseason since 2012 for the Denver Broncos and John Elway have proven one thing. The phrase “win now and from now on” is THE MANTRA. It is the filter that all decisions seem to seep through. Signing Von Miller to a long-term deal was a huge part of the 2016 offseason. It accomplished both parts of the mantra. That accomplishment did require some  preparation. Letting Danny Trevathan and Malik Jackson walk and not overpaying for Brock Osweiler were part of the prep.

Von Miller is the present and future of the Denver                           Broncos defense

Past signings and draft picks also show the mantra in full effect. Resigning Chris Harris Jr and Derrick Wolfe to cap friendly deals before their contracts were up while drafting Bradley Roby and Adam Gotsis in separate drafts are prime examples. Same positions, different ages, winning now and having replacements for winning from now on. Almost every free agency signing solve win now issues. The draft points to the win from now on mantra.

The mantra points to a simple solution to the biggest decision approaching the 2016 preseason. Who will be the starting QB for the Super Bowl champs? The win now and win from now on mantra lays the groundwork for Trevor Siemian to be the starting QB for the Denver Broncos in 2016-2017.

Mark Sanchez could become disposable if Trevor                             Siemian is trustworthy

Mark Sanchez is on the books for $4.5 million in 2016 and Trevor Siemian is on the books for $538,000. Emmanuel Sanders is scheduled for a pay increase at the end of 2016 and there will need to be cap room created to put forth a decent offer. John Elway took some flyers on Russell Okung and Jared Crick to fill roles on one year deals. If you want to keep them after solid years  you need some cash freed up. If Mark Sanchez cannot separate himself from the young (and cheap) Trevor Siemian the Broncos should cut or trade the nomadic QB. The Broncos believe they can win now with the same skill set leading the offense and win from now on with the ability to sign more players.

The Broncos look at the league and understand supply for QBs is dwindling while the demand is still constant. If Trevor Siemian can prove himself trustworthy to lead this team in 2016 and the Broncos can trade Sanchez for a 4th round pick while also juggling the possibility of shopping  a QB next year (likely Siemian) for a better pick then that is winning now and winning from now on.
