According to the Elias Sports Bureau, opposing starting centers are averaging 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game against Orlando this season. Both are the lowest figures in the NBA. Amazingly, the general consensus around Orlando is that Howard is having a bit of a down year by his standards. And while his points, rebounds and blocks are down from last year, he’s still clearly having an impact on opposing teams – whether that’s by his play or his mere presence is unclear. Additionally, Howard has led the Magic in points, rebounds and assists in three games this season. That’s also tops in the league. And his field-goal percentage is at 64.3 percent, compared to 57.2 last season. His numbers aren’t as eye-popping as they have been in the past, but Howard is as steady as ever. As his minutes go up and the wins keep coming in, Howard’s numbers will rise as well.
