Rams sign Junior Seau’s nephew

It’s a long shot, but there’s a chance another Seau will play in the NFL.

Ian Seau, the nephew of Hall of Famer Junior Seau, was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent, according to Pro Football Talk.

Ian Seau, a 6’3″, 250-pound outside linebacker-defensive end hybrid, had 31 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks in three years at Nevada. His most impressive stat was the seven fumbles he forced. He was a first-team All-Mountain West selection after being named to the second team the year before. He’s the first player in program history to be named all-conference in two straight seasons.

Junior Seau’s entry into the NFL was a lot more high-profile. He starred at USC and was the 1989 Pac 10 Defensive Player of the Year. The Chargers drafted him fifth overall and he was a First Team All-Pro six times in a 20-year career.

Expectations aren’t nearly as high for Ian Seau. Like any undrafted free agent, he faces long odds of making the team. He’ll need more than Junior Seau’s bloodlines to earn his keep.
