Report: Jared Goff has ‘a long way to go’

It’s one thing to hear that Case Keenum will enter training camp as the Rams’ starting quarterback. Just about every rookie quarterback faces a learning curve, even a No. 1 overall pick like Jared Goff.

Much more sobering for Rams fans is the report from NFL Media analyst Steve Wyche that Jared Goff “is nowhere near being ready to start Week 1.”

Wyche said he talked to one team official who said that Goff’s improvisational ability could come out when the pads come on and he plays in preseason games, but that Keenum could be the Week 1 starter because “Jared Goff has a long way to go.”

There’s also a long way to go before we worry about Jared Goff being a bust. But considering the bounty of draft picks the Rams gave up to move from No. 15 to No. 1, they’re probably looking for more out of Goff than Sam Bradford, the last quarterback they took with the top overall pick.
