Matt Forte announces Bears won’t re-sign him

Matt Forte says that his days with the Bears are over, announcing on Instagram that the team told him he won’t be re-signed.

Forte officially will become a free agent March 9.

After three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons, Forte ran for 898 yards in 2015 but still averaged 4.1 yards per carry. He caught 44 passes, his fewest since 2012, for 389 yards.

Forte missed three games with a knee injury and toward the end of the season lost carries to rookie Jeremy Langford.

Even though Forte is 30, the age when running backs typically hit the wall, he will be a coveted free agent with his ability to both run and catch passes.
