Brock Osweiler not attending White House visit with Broncos

The Denver Broncos are visiting the White House next Monday to celebrate their Super Bowl win and ex-Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler was invited, but Osweiler said “thanks but no thanks.”

Osweiler left the Broncos on the first day of free agency to go to the Houston Texans and is in the middle of OTAs with his new team, so he declined to join his former teammates at the White House.

“The Broncos graciously extended an invitation for me to join them at the White House on Monday,” Osweiler said in a statement Wednesday. “But due to a scheduled OTA in Houston, I feel it’s important to be at practice with my new teammates. It’s a new offensive system for me and every practice and rep is extremely important. I am very appreciative of the Broncos wanting to include me on this special day.”

Osweiler and the Broncos had somewhat of an awkward breakup in free agency. The Broncos didn’t think Osweiler, who started just seven games during the regular season, was worth what the Texans were offering, so they didn’t match Houston’s four-year, $72 million contract.

The Texans paid Osweiler like a franchise quarterback and they expect him to be ready for the start of the 2016 season.

Osweiler choosing to focus on practice is good for the Texans, but this might be his only chance to meet the president as a Super Bowl champion. His loss.
