Joey Bosa is tired of the J.J. Watt comparisons

San Diego Chargers first-round draft pick Joey Bosa wants to have the same impact on the field as Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, but the former Ohio State standout is growing tired of being compared to the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

It didn’t help that Bosa chose the same jersey number as Watt.

The fact of the matter is Bosa hasn’t played a single down in the NFL yet, so it’s unfair to compare him to a player of Watt’s caliber. As the third overall pick and the first non-quarterback drafted in 2016, Bosa’s rookie year will carry high expectations. The Chargers defense finished with 32 sacks last season, ninth-fewest in the NFL. San Diego also had one of the worst run defenses in the league, giving up close to five yards per carry in 2015.

The hope is that Bosa will help change that. He doesn’t have to play like Watt, but he will be expected to produce like a first-round pick should.
