Jon Gruden wants to eliminate instant replay

Jon Gruden is only 52. He’s a little young to be a fist-shaking, get-off-my-lawn curmudgeon.

But the Super Bowl-winning coach and “Monday Night Football” analyst sounded awfully old-school when he told “Men’s Fitness” magazine that he thinks the NFL should get rid of instant replay.

Gruden has a point when he says all these replays have “taken the juice of the stadium.” It seems NFL games are turning into three-hour episodes of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” because fans have to wait for the review before getting really excited about an interception, a fumble recovery, a highlight-reel catch near the sidelines and even certain touchdowns.

There’s no turning back, however, when it comes to instant replay. Officials in today’s NFL get enough wrong. It’s frightening to imagine how much they would screw up without the crutch of instant replay.
