The Jets are off to a surprising 2-0 start this year, but in Week 3 against the Eagles they’re adding to the franchise’s historic collection of laughable moments.
Trailing the Eagles 17-0 in the second quarter, the Jets seemed to gain a tiny bit of momentum when Brandon Marshall caught a pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick. Then when he was tackled, Marshall thought for some reason that it would be a good time to reprise the famous Cal-Stanford play.
Marshall apparently tried to lateral to teammate Jeff Cumberland. Instead, the ball hit Connor Barwins’s facemask. The Eagles recovered the fumble and capitalized with Darren Sproles’ 1-yard touchdown run to make it 24-0. It was Sproles’ second TD of the game.
Marshall atoned for his flub by catching a touchdown pass just before halftime. The Jets trailed 24-7 at the half.
The Jets still could be on their way to a turnaround season, but that doesn’t mean they have to abandon their tradition of driving their fans crazy.
