It was really easy for Drew Brees to throw touchdown passes in the Big Easy on Sunday.

Brees tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes in the Saints’ 52-49 win over the Giants.

Nick Foles is the most recent of seven quarterbacks who had previously thrown seven touchdown passes in a game, according to NFL.com.

In what is now a quaint footnote, it was Brees’ 10th career game with at least five touchdown passes, also a record.

Brees passed Peyton Manning to set that mark, and he had to out-duel Manning’s brother to win this offensive fireworks display. Eli Manning threw a career-high six touchdown passes and did a pretty good job moving up the record books himself.

The 13 combined TD passes between the two quarterbacks also is an NFL record, and the 101 combined points are third in NFL history.

Manning led the Giants back from two 14-point deficits, and Trumaine McBride’s 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown gave the Giants a 49-42 lead with 7:23 left in the game.

But the day belonged to Brees, who threw his record-tying seventh touchdown pass with 41 seconds left, a nine-yard connection to C.J. Spiller to tie the game 49-49.

This staggering exchange of touchdowns ultimately was decided by a field goal.

The game seemed to be heading to overtime when the Giants punted with 20 seconds left. The punt was fumbled but recovered by Saints receiver Willie Snead and brought to the Giants’ 47-yard line. A facemask penalty by punter Brad Wing moved to the ball to the 32, within range for Kai Forbath to kick the game-winning 50-yard field goal.

Brees completed 4o of 50 passes for 511 yards and one interception in leading the Saints (4-4) to their fourth straight win.

This will probably put to rest any worries about Brees’ shoulder.
