It’s been a long, but thrilling ride for Mets players, fans and management. The team that no one expected to even qualify for the playoffs before the season began swept the Cubs in the National League Championship Series and won the NL pennant.
That’s a successful campaign by any team’s standards, but it took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get there. The team’s front office worked especially hard and made a season-changing move by acquiring Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers, who was arguably the league’s second-half MVP (if such an award existed).
The season may have taken its toll on general manager Sandy Alderson, who had a press conference on Wednesday morning to formally announce manager Terry Collins’ two-year contract extension. Alderson reportedly fainted and collapsed at one point during the presser, but after being on the ground for about 30 seconds, he got back on his feet, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com.
Sandy joked afterward “OK, where were we?” But questions obviously stopped. He sat in a chair for a moment, then left room.

Alderson was lightheaded, affected by lights and heat, and had not eaten breakfast. Was examined by trainers. OK. Walking around.

We’re glad to hear the 67-year-old general manager is doing OK, and that it’s nothing serious. The Mets’ pitchers and catchers reported for spring training at Port St. Lucie back on Feb. 19, almost nine months ago. It’s been a long season, and some mental and physical exhaustion is expected.
Here’s to hoping Alderson can get some much-needed rest after the team’s successful 2015 campaign.
