UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was on the wrong end of one of the biggest upsets in 2015 thus far at UFC 193.
Holly Holm shocked the world when she knocked Rousey out with a kick to the head in the second round of Saturday night’s fight at Etihad Stadium. It was Holm’s seventh career win by knockout.
Holm had been beating up Rousey throughout the fight with a flurry of well-executed punches. She also did a good job of dodging punches by keeping her distance. When Rousey attempted to regain her balance after looking stunned/dazed from a nice combo, her opponent capitalized and made her pay.
Here are some other highlights.
At the end of the day: Rousey (12-1) is undefeated no more, while Holm (10-0) still has yet to lose.
The main takeaways here are that Rousey may actually be human and is also susceptible to boxing-influenced fighters. While Holm, who was as close to flawless as possible during the fight, took advantage of her moment in the spotlight and did what no woman (or man) had previously been able to do.
