NBA fans welcomed back TNT’s Craig Sager as he returned to the sidelines for the first time since beating leukemia.

It was fitting that Sager ended up interviewing coach Gregg Popovich between the first and second quarters of the Grizzlies-Spurs game, as the two have shared some great back-and-forth exchanges over the years.

Pop started off warm, but then quickly got back to his snarky self.

“I gotta honestly tell you, this is the first time I’ve enjoyed doing this ridiculous interview we’re required to do,” Popovich said. “It’s because you’re here, and you’re back with us. Welcome back, baby.”

“Thank you very much,” Sager said. “I laid in the hospital for months hoping to do this again.”

“Now ask me a couple of inane questions,” said Pop.

Popovich went on to explain why he pulled Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker out of the game.

“Well, they were playing like crap, so we put in different guys,” he said.

Vintage Pop. And also, it’s great to see Sager back healthy on the sidelines.
