In 2015, Ben Zobrist helped the Kansas City Royals win the franchise’s first World Series in 30 years.
In 2016, he’ll join a club seeking to end a much longer championship drought. The 34-year-old utility player agreed Wednesday to a four-year, $56 million contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Zobrist came to the Royals on July 28 as part of a trade with the Oakland A’s and hit .284 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 59 regular season games with Kansas City. During the playoffs, he posted a batting average of .303 along with 11 extra-base hits.
His joining the Cubs will mark a reunion with Joe Maddon, who was Zobrist’s manager in Tampa Bay from 2006-14.
