It’s no secret…Babe Ruth was known less for his glove than he was for his bat. That said, the former is expected to fetch an impressive sum at an upcoming auction.

A 104-year-old catcher’s mitt used by the baseball legend while in high school will be up for auction by Goldin Auctions.

“I’d be shocked if it goes for under $500,000,” company President Ken Goldin said, adding that it could fetch close to double that.

The hefty lefty, and former home run king, reportedly gave the glove to Edward Petschke back in 1914 while on a minor league assignment in Rhode Island. In turn, Petschke’s family gave the mitt to the Babe Ruth Museum back in 1993.

Michael Gibbons, executive director of the museum, hopes whoever wins the auction, keeps the glove where it belong.

“It has worked in the past,” he said. “I mean where’s the glove going to reside, in a closet? Let the public enjoy it.”

Opening bid is $125,000. The final live auction will be held April 30.
