How is it possible that we’re now three games into the 2016 MLB season and the San Diego Padres still have not scored a run?

Is it because they’ve had to face Clayton Kershaw and Scott Kazmir? Or are they just that bad offensively?

Maybe it’s a little bit of both, but the fact remains that the Padres had their chances on Wednesday against a pitcher making his MLB debut, and still could only manage a few hits and drew no walks against him. Kenta Maeda was probably thrilled his first MLB start came against a team comprised mostly of castoffs that seem to lack the intensity and motivation to buckle down and do whatever it takes to push some runs across.

And since they’ve now been shut out in three straight games, the Padres set an MLB record, but it’s certainly not one to boast about.

Furthermore, their loss was the Dodgers’ gain, it seems.

The Padres are off Thursday for a travel day, but the good news for them is they begin a series against the Rockies on Friday. Colorado’s pitching staff is one of the worst in the majors, so maybe they’ll be able to score a run, or two.
