Magic Johnson has a few ideas as to how the Los Angeles Lakers and new head coach Luke Walton should chase free agents this summer.
With Walton now in control of the franchise and Kobe Bryant gone, the Lakers stand as one of the biggest players in free agency as the organization looks to add a big name next to core pieces such as D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle, as well as what should be another high pick.
How big? Johnson suggests the Lakers should aim for the top dog, Kevin Durant:
Laker Nation: The first free agent the Lakers should go after is Kevin Durant.

Laker Nation: I would love to see Kevin Durant in the Purple & Gold!

So…big.
So big, in fact, that Johnson even went on to bring up LeBron James on the chance the King suddenly decides to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers:
Laker Nation: The Lakers should call LeBron James agent. We know he’s going stay in CLE but they should go after him just in case he leaves.

It all sounds like wishful thinking, but who knows? Not even Durant seems to know where he’s going yet, if anywhere. He could stick with the Oklahoma City Thunder, though teams such as the San Antonio Spurs and others seem like good fits, as do the Lakers if he wants to be the guy in a gigantic market. All in all, the situation warrants close monitoring this off-season, and a great place to stay up to date is hityah Sports News.
As for James, the Cavaliers look great right now. But it wasn’t long ago many thought an implosion was on the way and he would ditch the Cavaliers this summer. He still might, too, if the team goes south in the playoffs and James realizes the roster in Cleveland won’t help him win titles.
Los Angeles doesn’t figure to end up with either of these guys, but the lesson is clear—those in the know have major expectations for the Lakers as they get ready to kick in a new era, so get used to the idea of the team pulling off something gigantic this summer.
