Free agent O.J. Mayo has been dismissed and disqualified from the NBA for violating terms of the league’s anti-drug program, reports Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. Mayo will be eligible to apply for reinstatement in two years, per Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today.
In the NBA CBA, it says, “If a player tests positive for a drug of abuse, he will be dismissed and disqualified from the NBA.”

I’m empathetic. People are asking. The NBA CBA is a public document. Drugs of abuse:
Amphetamine and its analogs
Cocaine
LSD
Opiates

The 28-year-old shooting guard played for the Milwaukee Bucks last season. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per 26.6 minutes. Mayo missed the first 11 games of the season due to a strained right hamstring, and he suffered a fractured right ankle in March and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The third overall pick in the 2008 draft out of USC, Mayo has bounced around the NBA, playing with three different teams over the past eight seasons. Tough to say if he will be able to find another home in the NBA when he is eligible to apply for reinstatement in two years.
