On August 8, 1988, the Chicago Cubs attempted to play their first night game at Wrigley Field. Unfortunately, that game against the Philadelphia Phillies would be rained out.
They’d try again the next night when the New York Mets hit town and would succeed…making August 9 the date of first “official” night game.
Monday, the Cubs achieved another milestone (of sorts) related to that early August night nearly 28 years ago.

That’s right. When the Cubs took the field Monday against the Cincinnati Reds, they were doing so with a lineup consisting of players that were born after the team installed lights at Wrigley Field.
Coincidentally, Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward share birthdays that coincide with the anniversary of both of the Cubs attempts at illuminating Wrigley Field. They were born August 8 and 9, 1989 respectively.
