Coco Crisp’s 12-game hitting streak came to a screeching halt on Thursday night, and maybe that’s why he completely lost his cool and went off on home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn.
Crisp struck out swinging in the fifth inning of the Athletics’ game against the Astros, and he apparently didn’t like the called strike on the pitch that preceded it.
So he just casually tossed his bat and helmet right in Reyburn’s direction and made his way back to the dugout, essentially ejecting himself. It was an odd display, that’s for sure.
Manager Bob Melvin came out and gave Reyburn a piece of his mind, but was not ejected, unlike Crisp.
