A growing portion of NFL fans wouldn’t mind seeing the Cincinnati Bengals change their name to the Cincinnati Harambes.

Harambe, the gorilla the Cincinnati Zoo tragically killed after a child fell into the pit, is something of an internet sensation to this day. Per a survey with more than 8,000 signatures and growing, the local NFL team should change their name to honor the iconic animal:

The Cleveland Browns named their team after a former Coach who made a great impact on their city so why cant the Bengals do it as well in honor of a hero who made an impact on their city too!

Obviously this is one petition that won’t incite much change no matter how many signatures fill the sheet. Still, this sort of petition seemed only a matter of time. Funnily enough, it comes in a city where the fans of the pro football team have mostly yearned for change year after year and gotten little but the same regime (which has been more successful than almost any point in franchise history, but still).

For a franchise with an owner that loves to remain on a conservative slant, this change won’t happen. It will be interesting, though, to see how the internet takes this latest Harambe craze and how many votes the petition can get.
