Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott is set to be the team’s bell cow in the future, but he’s going to need to lose some weight first.

Elliott showed up to training camp weighing more than Tony Romo does, seeing 231 pounds when he first hit the scale. In comparison, his playing weight at Ohio State was 225 pounds.

Albert Breer of The MMQB reports that Elliott has worked off “some of that weight,” but tweaked his hamstring while doing so.

It’s not a huge deal, but it’s clear that Elliott was a bit out of shape, given the weight and hammy tweak. That’s a bit disconcerting given that he’s a rookie, and at 21 years of age, Elliott should’ve showed up to camp in peak shape ready to work.

Elliott should be able to cut the weight by Week 1 without many issues, but the hamstring tweak is a bit of a concern.
