Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has received some of the coolest gifts imaginable during his farewell tour this season, and the organization that cuts his checks gave him something pretty awesome as well.
With LEGO night set to take place at Fenway Park on Wednesday, the Red Sox figured that was the perfect time to build a giant statue of Big Papi. LEGO guru Erik Varszegi built it, and it stands at six-foot-seven, weighs, 170 pounds and took 34,510 bricks to finish, according to ESPN.com.
“Well, you have to be accurate to the character,” Varszegi said. “Every little detail he has was thought of. His face was great, especially with the sunglasses, the beard. I don’t think anyone could deny who it was, even if you only have a passing knowledge of the Sox. That’s what makes Ortiz so great: He’s very distinct.”
He sure is distinct!
