Dodgers broadcasting legend Vin Scully was honored before the first game of the Rockies-Dodgers series on Friday night — his final series in Los Angeles — and many celebrities were in attendance.
Kevin Costner was one of those celebs at Chavez Ravine for the Dodgers’ 7-4 win, and he gave a speech to pay tribute to Scully (which USA Today’s For The Win transcribed).
“We will miss you, my friend. We will miss you in our radio, in our cars, in our backyard. You’ve been a gift to Los Angeles and to baseball itself. It seems forever that you’ve been guiding us through your personal window into the game.
Many others were in attendance, including MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, who gave a few quick thoughts on Scully as well.
And while Scully did not respond directly after, he did write a letter to fans before the game, thanking them for their support over the years.

Scully, the GOAT, is finishing his 67th season with the Dodgers organization. He’ll call his final game at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, and his last MLB one just one week later.
