With only a few days left before the super fight, the betting odds for Mayweather vs McGregor fight has significantly reduced in McGregor’s favor thanks to a majority of the betting public going with the Irish man. However, the sharps and most boxing fans, still see it as an easy win for Mayweather.
A couple of weeks ago, former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi quit as McGregor’s sparring partner after pictures from one of their sessions showing McGregor favorably were leaked to the press. At the time, Malignaggi said the pictures didn’t show the whole session and challenged McGregor to release the video.
McGregor refused the request, but UFC president Dana White released a clip of a sparring session between Malignaggi and McGregor, which showed McGregor had the upper hand.
This week, Malgnaggi gave his account of what happened during the sparring sessions, and also said the boxing world was laughing at McGregor.
In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Malignaggi said McGregor was angry the boxing world has not accepted him. Malignaggi said the same thing would occur if a boxer walked into an MMA octagon and started claiming to be the best at something they have never tried their hands in.
Malignaggi added that the ridicule is only getting worse as videos of McGregor training for the fight circulate the internet. The former champ also added that he is glad he is no longer part of the spectacle.
When asked about the pictures and video McGregor’s camp leaked, Malignaggi said he thinks McGregor had them released on purpose to line up another fight after the Mayweather fight this weekend as a way to stay in the sport.
Malignaggi also added that he thinks McGregor also intentionally tried to piss him off before he got into the ring with him. He said there were times when he was ready to spar but was told he wasn’t allowed to train. He also didn’t have any television in his room he was put in by the McGregor camp, which didn’t make any sense to him.
Malignaggi said he was out of shape going into the sparring sessions with McGregor but denied getting knocked down by the UFC champion. He said that McGregor fans can choose to believe it happened, but are only going to be mad at themselves when they find out the truth.
Malignaggi said nothing connected in the exchange that was released by White, and some of the footage that was released was edited. He added that McGregor should be ashamed that a retired boxer, who literally got off the couch, was able to go 12 rounds with him during sparring sessions.
The former boxing champion said he isn’t bothered by the released footage because he was there and knows what really happened. He added that he has sparred with hundreds of champions and knockdowns were very rare in those sessions.
Malignaggi concluded the interview by saying he thinks McGregor is living in an alternate universe in which he thinks he can hurt people with his punches and has wondered if the Irish man is really that stupid. As far as he is concerned McGregor knows the truth of what happened and must be insecure to lie about scoring a knockout in a sparring session.
