We are officially through a third of the NFL season, and one of the biggest questions that has yet to be answered is who is the true king in the NFC East? The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys entered this season as two of the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. However, through the first six weeks of the season, they both sit with identical records of 3-3. This Sunday night, they will battle it out for first place in the division. With our free NFL picks straight up and analytic research, there is a clear front runner in this game.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys started the season off strong at 3-0 but have since lost their last three games in a row, including last week’s 22-24 loss on the road against the previously winless New York Jets. Dak Prescott has struggled in the past three games throwing four interceptions and only two touchdowns. The biggest problem, though, may be the defense, which has given up 24 and 34 points the past two games. The season’s struggles have left many of the Dallas faithful asking Jerry Jones to fire Jason Garrett.
Philadelphia Eagles
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles struggled to start the season, losing two of their first three, including a road loss against the Atlanta Falcons in week two by a score of 20-24. The offense has looked prolific for most of the season as the Eagles rank 7th in points scored per game this year. Philadelphia is, however, coming off a road loss in week six against the Minnesota Vikings in which the defense gave up 38 points. Unlike the offense, the defense, particularly the pass defense has struggled for most of the season. The Eagles rank 27th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game and 18th in passing yards per attempt.
Final Outcome
This game will be closely contested between these two clubs, with an essential question being answered. Will Dak Prescott’s recent struggles continue into this game or with the Eagles secondary continue to struggle with Prescott bouncing back and having a significant game? As part of our free NFL picks straight up, I look for the Eagles to come away with the win because of the disarray of the Cowboys defense and the way the Eagles have looked on offense in recent weeks.
