Even team mascots have rules to abide by. And Rocky, the Denver Nuggets mascot, may learn that lesson the hard way after attending a Colorado GOP rally on Monday without permission.

Rocky failed to inform the team about his appearance, and the Nuggets “want to be apolitical,” according to marketing manager Graham Wincott (via the Denver Post).

Rocky has not provided a statement at the present time, but he did meet with the Kroenke Sports Entertainment management team to tell his side of the story.

The Colorado GOP twitter account shared a photo of him attending the rally (which has since been deleted).

The event was held at Heritage High School in Littleton. Mitt Romney and others on the GOP ticket showed up at the event.

Rocky could be changing the way Kroenke sports teams approach these types of situations in the future. Wincott said the matter was being handled “internally” but the organization is setting “new protocol for anyone who wears a mascot uniform for a Kroenke [Sports Enterprises] sports team.”

“Two things we never touch on are politics and religion,” Wincott said.
