The Baltimore Ravens’ senior director of security, Darren L. Sanders, was charged with committing a sex offense on Tuesday night, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Police obtained a summons for Darren I. Sanders, the team’s senior director of security and a former Baltimore police homicide detective, on a charge of fourth-degree sex offense stemming from allegations lodged Dec. 14, according to online court records and a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case.

If convicted, a fourth-degree sex offense carries a maximum of one year in jail or a fine of $1,000, or both.

Sanders has worked for the Ravens organization for over 10 years. He has recently been under scrutiny for his role in the Ravens’ investigation of the Ray Rice elevator incident. He said he asked security at the casino to forward him footage of the incident. Yet Sanders said he never saw the videotape until TMZ released it to the public.

His attorney, Andrew Alperstein, said the charges against his client are “totally fabricated, made up.”

“It does a disservice to real victims when people make things up like this,” he said. “People like [Sanders] are susceptible to made-up allegations. It puts you in a vulnerable position.”

The Ravens released a short statement and said they are investigating the situation as well.

Sanders will appear in court on Feb. 9 on the sex offense charge.
