Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton did a pretty awesome thing recently, and if you like random acts of kindness, you’ll love hearing about it.
Newton was reportedly eating dinner with his teammates in Baltimore the day before the team’s preseason game against the Ravens, after which he departed from the restaurant with two bags full of food in his hands.
But the food wasn’t for him.
Newton took the food—an entire meal—to a homeless man at a bus stop, according to David Newton of ESPN.com. The man was holding a sign that said “Homeless Please help hungry — food,” and Newton did just that.
Candace Gregory witnessed the kind gesture firsthand, and shared some details about the type of person she believes Newton is.
“People talk about him [Newton] dabbing and all the stuff that in my mind ultimately should be irrelevant, because that doesn’t get to the heart of who he is.
“I once saw him give something to a disabled child at a practice and people were like, ‘Oh, it’s a photo opportunity.’ But this was when nobody was looking. That’s why we shared it, because character is what you do when nobody is looking.”
Newton’s teammate, Joe Webb, added that this is nothing new, and that Cam has done this type of thing before in the past. That’s pretty awesome.
