Should college athletes be paid? The pay-for-play movement continues to gain traction with each passing year.

Many athletes and members of the media have weighed in on this topic. Charles Barkley is the most recent person to share his opinion on the issue.

Barkley, an Auburn alumnus, sat down with Seth Davis of CampusInsiders.com to discuss paying college athletes. He said he would chip in if an Auburn booster asked for money to pay recruits.

Barkley makes a good point in mentioning certain universities that have been ripped for allowing athletes to skip out on attending classes. If athletes were paid, they might be more likely to go to class. They’d leave college with an education and some money in their pockets, rather than being uneducated, which Barkley pointed out as an issue with the current system.

It’s an interesting topic of discussion. If a booster called you and asked for money to recruit top athletes to your alma mater, would you do it?
