With the current controversy over data leaks and insider trading allegations in the daily fantasy sports industry, there might be no better time than to spoof how much money players are pouring into these games. Not to mention, of course, how pervasive ads for DraftKings and FanDuel are on sports TV programming.
On TBS Wednesday night following the NL wild card playoff game, Conan O’Brien claimed that his show had a new sponsor. And unlike the DFS industry, this site might be a bit more transparent about its relationship with players and customers.
Those DraftKings and FanDuel commercials that pervade every sporting event we watch nowadays were ripe for parody. If Conan didn’t spoof the ads, one of his late-night competitors or Saturday Night Live surely would have done so. So Coco beat them to the punch. Kind of like Ethan Haskell allegedly beating out other DFS players for big cash last week.
SpendKings! Well done. Especially with the big check that’s really a bill. Maybe the bar could have been a little more populated, but hey, that’s nitpicking. Team Coco got the vibe right with the testimonials from “winners” and the big-money player enjoying his anxiety and victory with the bros, but ultimately cut to the bottom line: Lots of people are losing cash on these games. Will they keep playing?
