Craig Sager captivated everyone who tuned in to watch the 2016 ESPY Awards on Wednesday night when he delivered an amazing speech after receiving the Jimmy V Award.
Everyone expected a powerful, moving speech because that’s just the type of person he is, but it was more than that, even.
Sager has been fighting leukemia for years, and unfortunately, he revealed back in the spring that he has only 3-6 months to live. But his speech at the ESPYs was all about enjoying the rest of his life and making every moment count.
“Time cannot be bought” Sager said, later adding that he would continue to fight.
“I’m going to suck the marrow out of life while life sucks the marrow out of me.”
Sager also said he often watches Jimmy Valvano’s speech, which is saved on his phone, as he battles through his ongoing fight with leukemia.
Valvano and Sager were/are heroes. Not the type of fictional characters we see in movies, but actual heroes, that used their final moments to help pass their message along to others so they can find strength and purpose from it.
