It wouldn’t be March Madness without an epic rant from Dick Vitale. The ESPN analyst weighs in on where he thinks the NCAA selection committee went wrong each year.
The topic of discussion regarding the 2015 NCAA tournament was (27-5) Murray State. Vitale went on a passionate rant about how the Racers deserve to be in the tourney, even though they were upset by Belmont in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. He noted that they once won 25 consecutive games.
Vitale also said Murray State didn’t get the opportunity to play some of the top-tier teams in the country. Jay Bilas served as Vitale’s counterpart during the discussion, and he made light of how the Racers got beat by some inferior squads (Houston and Xavier). But Vitale stuck to his guns and summed up his argument in one sentence.
“Any time you play Division 1 basketball, and you win 25 in a row, you belong in the tournament.”
Vitale does make a good point, as Murray State’s overall resume appears to be tournament-worthy.
