Navy can pretty much forget about a Group of Five bid to a major bowl game, and this sick one-handed touchdown catch by Houston wide receiver Demarcus Ayers is one of the reasons why.

This 62-yard reception from Greg Ward Jr. gave Houston a 38-17 lead over Navy in the third quarter. Houston (10-1, 6-1 American Athletic Conference) went on to win 52-31.

It almost looked like Ayers picked a football out of a tree. He just reached up, caught it and didn’t break stride. It’s not a catch you’ll see very often.

Navy (9-1, 7-0 AAC) could have started a season 10-1 for the first time since 1905 and earned a berth in the AAC championship game Dec. 5.

Instead, Houston will go to the AAC title game. Ayers has helped lead the way with eight catches for 161 yards and an eye-popping touchdown.
