The Cleveland Indians are seven games in front of the Detroit Tigers in their division and own the second best record in the American League.

The Tribe is so hot right now, they’re a couple of weeks away from capturing their first Central crown since 2007…but apparently that’s not enough for some Cleveland writers.

“Write it down,” Indians beat writer Paul Hoynes wrote Sunday. “On September 17, the Indians were eliminated from serious postseason advancement before they even got there.”

As you can imagine, Hoynes’ pessimism didn’t go over well among Indians fans, or in the team’s locker room.

Ouch.

The longtime Plain Dealer scribe was commenting on the spate of injuries to hit the team in the past two weeks. Since September 9, they’ve lost Danny Salazar and Yan Gomes. Saturday, pitcher Carlos Carrasco was knocked out after throwing just two pitches.

Over reaction on Hoynes part? Perhaps. But, you’ve got a team gunning to finished with its best record this side of the Willennium…why so sour?
