We live in a society where social media, online content and instantaneous messaging are just one click or a thumb-tap away, and it poses issues for parents of young children, specifically when they should get the privilege of owning a cellphone.

And as for LeBron James, well, he may be rich, but that doesn’t mean he allows his 11-year-old son, LeBron Jr., to get everything he wants.

James told Sports Illustrated’s Lee Jenkins that he won’t allow his son to own a cellphone yet, indicating that he still has plenty of time to grow up.

“He’s lucky,” LeBron explained. “He gets to grow up slower than I did.”

James is right. His son can at least wait until he gets to middle school, if not a bit longer. Sometimes being a dad is a tough job, and the popular decision often isn’t the correct one.
