Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Terence Newman is currently playing in his 12th season in the league. And with his contract set to run out after this season, it could be his last year playing in Cincinnati—or in the NFL altogether should he choose to retire.
The Bengals squared off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and rookie wide receiver Mike Evans put a wrestling move on Newman which may cause him to reconsider playing in the league next season and beyond.
It was a mismatch from the get-go, with the 5’10”, 197-pound Newman given the tough task of covering the 6’5″, 231-pound Evans. And on one particular play, the two got physical with one another as the rookie tried—and succeeded quite easily—to get off the veteran’s jam.
Evans then picked Newman up and choke-slammed him to the ground.
Newman seemed to be okay afterward. He stayed in the game, and the Bengals escaped with a 14-13 victory.
